5 Tips For Beating Micro Stakes Poker

5 Tips For Beating The Micro Stakes Online – $0.02/$0.04 to $0.05/$0.10

If you are new to online poker then starting in the micro stakes is usually a good idea. However getting stuck there is not. Many players start of with the best intentions in the low stakes games but never progress past the $0.05/$0.10 level. If you are one of these players then hopefully this article will be able to point you in the right direction and help you progress up through the stakes where the serious money is! Here are our 5 top tips for beating the micro stakes.

Number 1 – You’re Playing Too Loose Preflop

Many players in the micro stakes games are far too loose preflop when it comes to hand selection. Often there is a massive edge to be had in these games by just tightening up your preflop range and using your superior hand selection to beat your opponents. Playing “trouble” hands is a massive problem for new players in the game. It’s time to learn that K 8 suited isn’t going to be a profitable hand for you!

Number 2 – You’re Calling Too Much

Aggression is key in any form of poker and at any stakes. No matter what level you are playing if you are not putting pressure on your opponents then you’re doing something wrong. Learn to continuation bet and learn what boards to continuation bet on. More importantly, learn to identify what kind of player your opponent is and change your approach to them based on their tenancies. If they are a calling station then value bet them all the time, if they are super tight then c bet the flop and fire the turn to get them off their hand.

Number 3 – You’re Impatient

Inpatients is a major problem that many low stakes players have. Getting bored at the table or using the excuse “It’s only another $0.10 to call” just isn’t good enough. If you really want to improve as a player you need to bring your A game to the table as often as possible. Even though you are playing for small amounts of money you still need to be trying to make the best decision you can in every single hand you play. Success breeds success and approaching the game with an impatient attitude just isn’t going to cut it. Getting into bad habits now is going to make it so much harder in the future.

Number 4 – You’re Not Playing Enough Hands

Online poker professionals are playing thousands and thousands of hands every month. They are playing more than one table at a time and multiple opponents on a daily basis. If you are only playing for a few hours a week then you don’t stand much chance of moving through the stakes quickly. The more you play the more experienced you become. You will learn to recognize good situations and develop lines which work against certain types of opponents. Using the excuse that you simply can’t play more than one table at a time just isn’t good enough. With some practice you should be able to play at least four tables at a time. Just keep adding a table until you are comfortable.

Number 5 – You’re Not Working On Your Game

Players who are stuck in the micro stakes tend to spend very little time actually learning about the game. There are loads of places you can read quality articles about winning online poker strategies. You will even find free video tutorials at many of the major online poker forums. Join a forum, get involved in the community, post hand histories you’re unsure about and try to answer threads about others hand histories. If you work on your game away from the table then you will start to feel the benefit at the tables very quickly.
